About
Acadia Hospital
The Acadia Hospital is located in Bangor, Maine and features mental health clinics in Blue Hill, Bucksport, and Pittsfield. Open since 1992, we are the country's first psychiatric hospital to earn the prestigious Magnet Hospital accreditation for nursing excellence (link to http://nursecredentialing.org/magnet/ to learn more). We offer acute inpatient care, day programs and outpatient services to children, adolescents and adults from central, eastern and northern Maine.
We are proud to provide shelter and housing programs for homeless individuals at the Acadia Recovery Community, and we are a national leader in opiate addiction treatment through our Narcotic Treatment Program.
The primary mission of The Acadia Hospital and Acadia Healthcare is the provision of both hospital-based and community-based mental health and substance abuse treatment services to the people of Maine. Acadia is a private, non-profit acute care hospital and community mental health agency offering many different services. We treat individuals regardless of their ability to pay.
Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Acadia is licensed for 100 beds and employs over 650 individuals. We believe that by putting our employees first we ensure the best possible care for our patients. To that end, Acadia provides flexible employment opportunities and assistance in continuing professional education.
The hospital doesn't just treat mental illnesses and chemical dependency, we advocate for our patients’ rights and we provide education to the community in an effort to increase awareness and decrease the stigma associated with these illnesses. Acadia has been recognized and has earned awards for its Speak Out for Kids youth wellness and suicide prevention campaign, and for the Community Conversations youth wellness and violence prevention program, and most recently for the Close to Home opiate awarenesss campaign (www.closetohomecampaign.org).
